Every type of industry needs a sales force to sell the products or services which earn profits for the company. The results gotten by the sales staff directly affect the bottom line and make salespeople some of the most important employees in the company. Many sales positions use a territory method for dividing potential customers. Your sales experience can translate to any industry. Most types of sales positions offer a base salary with commissions based on sales. Negotiation of the position is often part of the interview and hiring process. Do your homework before applying so that you understand what the average salaries and commission rates are for the particular industry. Some sales positions require you to do cold calling, while others use leads and some use both. The best sales candidates are those who have the unique sales skills to sell products or services using many methods.
There are certain buzzwords or keywords in sales ads that you should be aware of when writing your resume. For example the keywords “communication skills,” “outside sales experience,” “team building,” “sales forecasts,” and “interpersonal skills” are just a few of the many words that you can add to your resume. Use these words to tailor your resume to the sales industry. Use bullet points to highlight specific skills and abilities that you want to focus on. There are three main styles of resumes to choose from; these include the chronological resume, the functional resume, and the combination resume. The chronological resume focuses on your work experiences in chronological order. The functional resume stresses your skills and abilities. The combination resume uses elements of both chronological and functional resumes.

I’m an 18 y/o college freshman applying for jobs in a call center and at the front-desk of hotels. I have only had one job, so I tried to sell myself by stating my skills. I would like to know if this sounds professional enough:
“I am very knowledgeable with technology, including computers and computer programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet. I also have experience in answering phones, filing, making copies, faxing material, and am able to type 68 wpm. I am a very fast learner and I have excellent customer service skills.”

In today’s competitive job market, employers relay on well-written resumes to screen potential candidates. In many instances, employers look through job search web sites, such as HotJobs.com or Monster.com, to find professionals with skills, education and experience that fit their needs. These employment search web sites, along with many companies’ own online applications, require candidates to upload their resume in order to express interest in a specific opportunity. Without an opportunity to send a personal email, or a cover letter, you have to make sure that your resume expresses your personality in addition to listing your professional and educational experiences and achievements. To do so, you can include a professional profile or summary at the beginning of your resume that allows you to market yourself through a narrative. This section allows your potential employers to learn something unique about you and your career, as well as get a good feel of your communication skills.
To write an effective summary, you should first understand what information should not be communicated in your resume. While a summary provides an insight into what is unique and competitive about you, it is not a place for you to indicate any personal information that does not relate to your career. Information such as ethnicity, marital status, sexual orientation, religious beliefs and affiliations, etc. should be left out of your resume. While descriptive of who you are, this information is not relevant to your potential employer in order to pre-screen your qualifications for their opportunity. Additionally, the summary should not contain your previous professional experience, unless you can clearly demonstrate how such background can be of value in your future career development. Beware of generic statements, such as “I am well organized and detail oriented.” Employers want to hear your unique voice and get a sense of your communication skills while reading the summary portion of your resume. Using generalizations about your abilities will make the employers believe that you are either a poor communicator or are using such statements to fill up space on your resume.

I need help with making my resume the best it can be. I have formatted very good but it wont show how i formatted it on here. So I just need help with the wording, objective, and how to “spice” up what i did at my old jobs. Your answers will be very appreciated and your typing will not go unconsidered. I will be submitting my resume for a Commuter Services position soon. The duties for this job is: selling parking permits, giving directions providing information and general office support. Excellent customer service and cash handling skills are required.
With that being said, I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some feedback on my ‘Summary’ and Summary Skills and Qualification’ section below. I did not list the other sections because I do not need feedback on those.

I’ve been self employed since roughly 1996 making and selling soy candles as well as sewing home decor and fashions. The economy started to take a nosedive and people stopped spending money on my products the other year and I’d gotten to the point where I needed to seek outside employment. I am currently in school to become an RN. My problem is building a resume w/o having worked for someone else, I have lots of skills that go along with everything from production to bookkeeping but I have no professional references to attest to those skills as the people I interacted with on a daily basis were suppliers or customers whom I’ve never had face to face interactions with.
Any tips on building such a resume would be helpful!
